ON THE BAYOU

I’ve always been a fan of the Hudson River School nocturne paintings. As a southern Louisiana native, I wanted to see if I could combine that look with my own nostalgia. Many of these photographs were taken along I-10 passing through the Atchafalaya swamp and Lake Pontchartrain—while traveling at 75 mph. (No, I wasn’t the one driving.)

MACRO NATURE

Of course, anyone who plays with macrophotography ends up looking at bugs and flowers. Everything looks so alien at that scale.

SALT

I realize this is an odd choice of subject matter. I used it as a way to test various macrophotography experiments. It provided a roughly consistent reference of magnification, depth of field and lighting, plus it made for an easy source of still-life. It also introduced a randomness to some geometric compositions. Part of the process was constructing an eight-foot camera, which became an artistic endeavor of its own.

TRAVEL

I'm not great about taking vacations, but it does occasionally happen. Even then, I'm usually attempting to capture an image rather than sit and relax.

OFFICE SHENANIGANS

Just for fun,  I’ve included a few of the things I’ve designed for internal office events. Since there's never a budget for them, these are often become great exercises in how fast you can throw together a fun design.
